Christian Comic Arts Society

A Network of Christian Fellowship for Comics Fans, Pros, and Amateurs

Nope.  That's my answer, but I ain't telling it to my other half.  A wonderful miracle(and I don't use this word lightly) is growing in my wife's womb, and as amazed as I am that this little bundle of personality is so safe from the numerous things a human body goes through each day in sitting, standing, laying down, getting up, rolling, I feel as equally unprepared.  Yes, I'm talking about a baby.

People talk about teaching a baby, a child so much.  After all, that's what all those books everywhere are about.  Teach your baby, teach your child.  It's poppycock.  Your child will do what they see you do.  If you want them to be a good team player, have them watch team sports, like baseball on your lap.  If you want them to read the Bible, read it yourself.  And if you want them to cross the crosswalk instead of jaywalking, do it yourself.  The problem is... this isn't one person, this is husband and wife... and being a great example all the time is something I'm not too sure I am.

It's normal to feel unsure. You have God and He will show you how to be a good dad. As far as role models? Don't try to be one. That's silly. You are a flawed human. Do what God says and love God the most and love others the best  you can. When you mess up, say sorry. End of story. Not that you need advice. I'm just explaining what worked for me. Take what you think might help and leave the rest. But, yeah, seriously...if you are loving God, reading the Bible, loving your kid and wife, trying your best to do what God tells you and be a good guy...your kid will see that. AND, when you mess up and take responsibility your kid also learns it's ok to be human and what to do when he/she messes up.  I have to tell you tho, my kid has been the best thing I ever experienced in my life. Better then the best toy. I love really messing around and joking  with him.  But kids are hard. Thank God for God when it comes to kids. They make you worry and angry and happy and sad so many times. It's all worth it though. But it would be hard to be a parent without God. You'll do just fine. Just relax and enjoy the process day by day. Anyways, GRATZ on being a dad. Best wishes.

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”
