Male

Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
Writing, Pencilling, Inking, Coloring. Trying to move to an entirely digital workspace/skillset; becoming accustomed to using my Wacom tablet. Interested primarily in writing historical fiction/fantasy. Interested in reading fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction/fantasy.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I was raised in the church; "invited Jesus into my heart" at 9, baptized at 13, recommitted my life to Christ in my teens, and changed the way I thought about what it meant to be a Christian after spending a week with a couple of deeply committed Christian friends. I was impressed by the fact that they treated following Jesus as a real, applicable, lifelong pursuit instead of an intellectual exercise. I've stumbled more times than I can count, but God has promised not to give up on me.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Writing and drawing my own comics. That pretty much sums it up.
Favorite Comic Creators:
Will Eisner, Neil Gaiman, Jeff Smith, Zander Cannon, Linda Medley, Mark Oakley, Kurt Busiek, Alan Moore, Hayao Miyazaki, Masamune Shirow, Scott McCloud, ... (There are more; I'll add more when I think of them)

But Toluca Lake is in Silent Hill!

Posted on January 15, 2008 at 5:54pm 0 Comments

My wife and I have moved to Toluca Lake, California - back "home" in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles. I lived down here, in Valley Village, when I first met my wife on the Internet, back in 2001. So it's a little surreal to be back. Especially since I've just started my last class at MCAD, an Independent Study class that I'll be doing with one of my teachers through e-mail. Then, in June, I'll fly back out to Minneapolis to hang my senior show at the school and collect my Bachelor's… Continue

The Last Semester

Posted on August 28, 2007 at 11:53pm 0 Comments

I have until December 14th before I get ejected from the Otherworld of academic pursuit back into the real world of finding an apartment and looking for a job. Marilyn and I did a little apartment-searching online tonight, and while it yielded one or two possibilities, the thought of the future rushing headlong toward me might make me wet myself in fright if I think about it for too long.

I've got crushing student loans looming overhead, demanding to be paid. Praise God, my wife has a… Continue

Wizard World 2007

Posted on August 16, 2007 at 10:49pm 2 Comments

I went to Wizard World in Chicago with my friend and mentor Pat Gleason last weekend. Wizard sprang for a hotel room and convention badge and allowed him to add me as a guest, so all I had to pay for was food and gas. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

The con was good for me. As always, it was invigorating to see other people's work and thus be re-energized to work on my own material. I attended a couple of panels on creating comics and the comics industry, and had… Continue

Hi ya, I know you like Christian comics so I know you'll love The Word for WORD Bible Comic(Unabridged, historically accurate graphic novel of the Bible with a high view of scripture. For ages 15+)

To complete the first book I need your help, as I am raising funds on Kickstarter. My passion is to get God's Word in full into the hands of young believer and unbelievers and comic lovers of all ages, in the hope they will come to really know God. Please check it out at the KS page, it's going well but I still need lots of backers so I hope as a CCAS member you'll please pledge to support this project...

If you are concerned about the accuracy and faithfulness to the text please read this Blog...

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

Hey Devin-I was so geeked after wizard con that I went on a writting spurt. I am doing a seven part series called "Chiyalim." It's a Hebrew word for solidier. I've got the first part done and am well into the second. It's based in 2107 when our society is controlled by drug companies. First drugs are legalized, then promoted, then required. The five main characters are based on the five offices-Pastors, teachers, evagnelist, prophet and apostles. I'd like to have the first two books and teaser for the third ready for next year. Can you reccomend any frelance artists?
