I really enjoy Chris Ware. While I do enjoy realistic superhero comic work, I like simple cartoony stuff more, for whatever reason.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I do not recall much about the time preceding my faith in Christ; however, I am not sure what would motivate me in the here and now if it were not for Christ. Secularism and humanism would not have satisfied me, nor would they have challenged me. No other one and no other thing would have made life even bearable, let alone enjoyable.

CCAS Suggestion

Posted on December 5, 2011 at 2:34pm 1 Comment

Suggestion: What if CCAS were to have an individual's photos in descending order rather than ascending? What I mean is that for those who create a series of comics, over a period of time, like the gentleman who draws Modern Christians, hitting Previous will actually go to the next comic chronologically, and hitting NEXT will actually go to the previous comic chronologically, which is counter intuitive. I know there is an option for those with NING.

JUST A…

Sven! How peculiar. I've been wanting to do more "writing". I do have a bucket-load of written material - but it isn't really in your direction.

But I do have a project that's been sitting around - and I think you'd be perfect for it. Actually, you would be 100% perfect for it.

I'll write it up and sent it along.

Hey, Sven.  Pilgrim's Digress 4 is superb!  So is Celsus!  Beautiful stuff.  Keep it up!

Hi, Sven.  I'm the opposite: I like the more realistic action, super hero comics.  But I'm open to more cartoony stuff.  I had a Chris Ware comic a few yrs back.  It was depressing, yet it had striking visuals.  Ware knows how to evoke a mood.

I checked out your strip with Gumby in it.  It was interesting.  I would say that there's a wrong offending and right offending.  Those guys with the signs: that's just plain wrong.  Well, keep drawing!

Hey, on the webcomics forum I've got a post now on the webcomics forum asking for more backlinks... would you like me to list Rofopolis? Let me know!

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
