Okay... so here's the history...Years ago (almost 20, in fact) I came up with this idea for a strip that would allow me to express my thoughts in a quick, at-a-glance type of way. That strip idea has…Continue

Butterfly in Times Square.

So, I'm not sure why this is worth writing about, but anyway…   I'm walking to work today, down 44th street, and this butterfly flies beside me. Butterflies are not really uncommon in Manhattan, but they're also not terrible common… especially near Times Square.   So, this butterfly flies beside me for a bit. (I'm not sure what kind it was. It had the same colors as a monarch, except no white, and it was smaller, but it was beautiful nonetheless.) It darts in front of me, and lands on the…See More

Cambodia.

Hey all,I just came back this Friday (4/20) from a 2 week mission trip to Cambodia, and I wanted to just take a moment to share a bit of what the Lord is doing out there with you guys.First, let me say that before I went I had NO idea what to expect. I knew about as much as the average person does about Cambodia (which is nothing), but the opportunity came up through our church's connection with Harmony Outreach, and I accepted. What I…See More

The Avengers

Okay, I've kind of written off all these super-hero movies.   I was totally underwhelmed by both "Iron Man" flicks.   I hated "Captain America".   "X-Men: First Class" was horrendous.    Because of this I never saw "Thor", and have no desire to.   And although I loved Spider-Man 1 and 2, I never saw 3, but the fact that they are rebooting the whole thing with the new Spider-Man sickens me.   But, I happened to watch the new trailer to "…See More

Matisyahu.

My wife and I just came from a Matisyahu concert in Tarrytown, NY.   It was fantastic! A true artist!   If you've never heard his stuff, check it out!   He's not a Christian, but a Hasidic Jew who's music sounds more Christian than many Christian bands out there! Very deep and insightful.   ...Just thought I'd share.See More

Personal finance.

Well, I guess this discussion goes here...   There is a Christian financial counselor named Dave Ramsey who has a 12 week course called "Financial Peace University" (FPU), and if you have never heard of him or it you should seriously look into it.   My wife and I have taken this course, and it has completely transformed our financial lives.   Art and money rarely flow together smoothly, and it is vital that we…See More

Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
I love art, obviously. John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Drew Struzen, and Carl Larsson being some of my faves.

I love music. Everything except hip-hop and opera.

I love nature: birdwatching, tree identifying, and woods walking.

I love reading, films, coffee, apologetics, coffee, chess, coffee, food, coffee. ...Uhmm, did I say coffee?
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I accepted the Lord in '89, I think. (I'm horrible at dates.) In a nutshell, I was afraid to die, and my own impending mortality was staring me dead in the face. (No pun intended.) A friend led me to the Lord on the phone, and my life has never been the same.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Doing my own stuff. No editors. No publishers. Just straight from my head. (No offense to editors and publishers.) Then have people give me money for it. (Hey, mortgages don't pay themselves!)
Favorite Comic Creators:
Wow... let's see, Gil Kane, John Byrne, Neil Adams, John Buscema, and John Romita were huge influences on me in my youth... and still somewhere in the back of my mind.

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
