Tonight I plan to finish my third comic book and have it printed tomorrow. It's been a challenging project, but persistance pays off.

Profile Information

Location:
Abilene, Kansas
Gender
Male
Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
I'm an ametuer cartoonist. I've published two of my own comic books and am working on the third one now. I'm also developing a comic strip for newspaper publication.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
Forgiveness is something that I struggled with greatly throughout my life. Not truly understanding it, not willing to do it, etc. It was something that was very alien to me. By studying the examples that Jesus set during his time here on earth I realized that Jesus practiced what he preached. I eventually learned to forgive others. Jesus also taught me that it's okay for men to have feelings of sensitivity. Males can cry. Being strong does not mean the absence of tears.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Writing, drawing, and publshing my own comic books with my own characters. I'm already doing this on very small and local level, but I hope to expand to bigger areas (comic book shops, comic books conventions, etc.)
Favorite Comic Creators:
I'm a huge fan of the classic creators as well as the ones that made comcs when I was a kid. They include: Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, John Romita, Joe Shuster, Ron Frenz, Tom DeFalco, Bob Kane, Rob Liefeld, Stephen Platt, Carl Burgos, Bill Everett, Sal Buscema, Marv Wolfman, Herb Trimpe, Steve Gerber, John Romita Jr., Charles Schultz, Jim Davis and many more.

I don't have any published stuff yet. I kept starting projects, then talking myself out of it. Recently I did a series of video interviews for my site geekchurch.net that really inspired me to finish a project I had started, then abandoned. I ended up calling the interview series "No Excuse" because I realized how many creators never get published because of their fear of failure. Yet by doing nothing they have already failed. you can check out the videos at http://geekchurch.net/no-excuse

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
