CCAS Prayer Letter - Invitation

Hey all, For over the last few years I have been the distributor of a email prayer letter to a group of various members of the CCAS.  This orininally started primarily with folks who were a part of Alpha-Omega, the Christian Comic APA that's part of the CCAS, but there are other non-Alpha-Omega people who have joined into the distribution as well.  The role is a little small now, and I'd love to add more people to this group. Basically it's just an informal weekly prayer letter, for which I…See More

Superman curse?

I know this has been around awhile, and isn't anything new, but it's one of those things I kick around in my head when I can't sleep. It's the goofy "curse of Superman" theory. Here's the wiki for it. Supposedly, according to this urban legend thing, there has been non-stop disaster/death/obscurity for actors and actresses associated with the Superman character, and I wonder if there's anything to it.Now I don't believe…See More

Link exchanging, anyone?

Hey, would anyone be interested in doing a link exchange? I'm going to fix up my blogroll, and I'd be happy to include links to other Christian webcomics, as long as they are up and running (no 404's! :)If you'd like a link to your site, just send me the URL (post it here, or shoot me an email at robsartgallery@yahoo.com) and I'll be glad to add it to my blogroll. And if anyone has a blogroll on their site, I'd really appreciate a backlink to December Sun (…See More

Any thoughts about promotion?

I'm curious to hear what ideas people have about promoting a webcomic. I think this could be beneficial to everyone to share ideas here. I have a few to share, that I think help, but who knows, there might be better ideas out there.First, and I picked this up online from one of the freelancer sites I visit. Companies pay for bloggers to go out and leave comments on sites with valid comments, in order to save a BACKLINK to the site they want to have advertised. This should NOT be confused with…See More

Webcomic creator introduction

Hey, since this discussion group is officially up and rolling, how about some brief introductions from webcomic creators here, such as what you're working on and maybe what you'd like to see covered and discussed here in this group? Here's my intro...My name is Rob Marsh, and I've been a part of the CCAS and a member of Alpha-Omega since around 2000. During that time I've been SLOWLY printing a "paper" version of a comic book super hero title called "December Sun" - a title that, in a nutshell,…See More

A group here for Webcomic publishers?

Hey, I'm curious if there is a group here for "webcomic publishers", and if not, could something like this be created? (if this exists and I missed it somehow, please forgive me!)I've been trekking along with my webcomic (dscomic.com) for a couple months now, and so much of what I've been doing has been an independent learning experience. I'd like to start networking with other Christian webcomic creators more, to get some ideas of how to promote a webcomic, advertising, sidebar links, hosting,…See More

December Sun - now an online daily webcomic

Posted on December 18, 2008 at 2:22pm 5 Comments

December Sun is now online daily mon-fri as an ongoing webcomic. I've been gradually working through the panels of issue #1 (already printed as a comic, available at comixpress.com) and I'll contine through issues #2 and #3 (both printed as well with comixpress) then I'll move into the completed art and story for issues #4 and #5 (not printed, but mostly completed) and, as we speak, I'm drawing issue #6 and 7. I'm hoping I can keep up with the schedule.

I'm doing this for a few… Continue

It's great to see so many people here so far, including a lot of people from Alpha-Omega. I'm looking forward to reading others posts and comments.

Hello Rob,

I just read the first three issues of December Sun and I like the story! I think issue #3 is my favorite so far, because it really shows the main character struggling to come to terms with his abilities. Do you plan on exploring how and why he acquired those abilities in more depth in later issues?

Aside from that, I had a question about the Comics press software for publishing webcomics. Is the software for MACs as well as PCs, or just for PCs?

Hey Rob. Just wanted to let you know I went and bought a copy of December Sun Issue #1. I was really impressed with the look on the site and really wanted to see what it looked like in print. Btw, are you happy with how Comixpress handles your stuff? I've got a project going right now called Faith Noir and I'm trying to find a good on-demand publisher. Keep up the good work man. God bless.

Hey Rob Marsh, I came on and noticed your Reformed Fruit comic. Back in high school I made a Christian comic starring fruit (as an obvious counterpart to Christian vegetables). I was still somewhat getting into the swing of things, so the comics probably appear somewhat sacreligious, BUT I DIDN'T INTEND IT TO BE THAT WAY!!! You can check them out here: http://gopus.xepher.net/comics/rottenapple/ . Keep up the great work man!

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
