Comic Con International 2010 Report by Ralph Ellis Miley

Posted on July 28, 2010 at 7:24pm 0 Comments

Another year, another Comic Con. Once again there are the elaborate booths and displays, the massive crowds, the famous celebrities, and the amazing costumes. Kevin and Heather Yong and I drove to convention center early Wednesday morning to set up. Set up went smoothly with the CCAS material arriving to our table in a timely fashion. Though the length of the table was the same as…

Phoenix Comic Con Attendance

Posted on June 15, 2010 at 10:00am 3 Comments

The Phoenix Comic Convention posted their attendance numbers and there were 13,988 attendees. That was double their numbers for 2009. Information for Exhibitors, Small Press, and Artist's Alley is already posted on their site. Membership information will be posted after July 4, 2010. I believe they will have even bigger numbers for 2011. The CCAS is planning to purchase a corner booth make space available to other Christian publishers who may want to attend. You can go to their site at… Continue

Phoenix Comic Con 2010 Report by Ralph Ellis Miley

Posted on May 31, 2010 at 8:30pm 7 Comments

The 2010 Phoenix Comic Con was far more than I expected. The con has been going for about 8-9 years. My research showed that it has been growing for the past several years. A vendor who I converse with at both San Diego and San Francisco highly recommended this convention. In 2009, the con garnered 7,000 attendees. I have noted that these comic book conventions, such as WonderCon and Phoenix,…

WonderCon 2010 Report by Ralph Ellis Miley

Posted on April 9, 2010 at 10:00pm 5 Comments

Even though this has been only my second time at WonderCon on the behalf of the CCAS, it is quickly becoming one of my favorite conventions. The dates were April 2 through April 4 at the Mascone Center in San Francisco, California. There is not the media and movie frenzy that has come to dominate the San Diego Con, nor are there the extravagant displays that I’ve grown accustomed to seeing at…

WonderCon 2009 Report, San Francisco by Ralph Ellis Miley

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 11:00pm 4 Comments

Though WonderCon has been around for about 20 years, this would be the first year the Christian Comic Arts Society would have a table at this long standing con. The con would be open to the public Friday through Sunday, February 27th to March 1st, 2009. I arrived on that Thursday before to set up the table and then have some time to relax afterwards.

Thursday would also mark the first cold I would have in over two years. I did not know how to look at this. Was it a sign from the Lord… Continue

Hello Ralph,

I just read the first chapter of Ragged Capes, and I'm already hooked! I really like the focus on the characters and their humanity, and the overall concept behind the book. I want another volume, lol...

Thanks so much for the welcome, Ralph! Looking forward to posting work up. I'm currently work on my first Christian graphic novel. It's an adaption on the book of Jonah. Very excited about it. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able post up some spreads. For now, I'm hammering away...

Great to hear you're a Toth fan. I hear their are two in-depth books on his work coming out this fall. What a great illustrator and visual storyteller he was. I'm looking forward to getting know people who use the their special gifts given to them for the glory of Jesus Christ.

God bless you Ralph.

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”
