Greetings all!My name is Michael LaVoice, and the funny thing is that I am writer, who, along with my son, created the characters and concept for a Super Hero comic that taught Christian values and even the odd apologetic or two to kids, but I had given up on ever seeing it illustrated. I had the first two issues scripted, and the first five issue story arc completely plotted, and the next story arc outlined, but could never find someone willing to draw it because there really wasn't any up…See More

Profile Information

Location:
Memphis metro area, Tennessee
Gender
Male
Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
Writer, musician (vocalist, harmonica), voice actor.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
Raised in a church, but never really knew Jesus. Drifted into cults, then eventually paganism, and sauntered vaguely downwards into semi-atheistic-agnosticism. My wife was saved first, and I actively tried to talk her out of her faith for a good while before realizing that there was something new about her and started paying attention. Her example, and a sound sermon on the use of God's law in personal evangelism finally brought me to the foot of the cross. I plan on spending the time left to me using my talents and creative energy to glorify God on Earth and point others to him.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Writing the stories and characters I have been given to create, reaching young people and others with God's truth, in as many mediums a s possible.
Favorite Comic Creators:
Mort Nodell, Julie Schwartz, Kieth Giffen, Geoff Johns.

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
