Using buried History stories to teach Bible lessons

My name is Matt Shoemaker and I'm an author for Keys for Kids Ministries. Several years ago, God led me to teach Bible lessons at Wayside Cross, a homeless shelter. Each lesson was taught before a meal and the audience ranged from 30-50 people. I was in rotation with a couple other Bible teachers and I wanted to communicate a Bible lesson in a way that was unique. I noticed that the audience was drawn to historical people or events. I dug deep into history and pulled out some fantastic stories.…See More

Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
A writer. I write Bible lessons and present them at Wayside Cross, a homeless ministry. I speak each week, bringing intriguing stories of heroes, villains, mysteries, historic events, etc. This can be a very tough audience because none of them want to be there, they have to listen to the message in order to stay and eat. So, I go into depth and details captivating them and then at the end I switch gears and present a Gospel message. Very few in the audience are Believers but I also present them with truth from the lesson on how to grow closer to Christ.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I was the youngest of 5 children and grew up in a Christian family. I was the "good child" by default because my older brother always got into trouble - so, I just didn't do what he did and I was the "good child". On April 2, 1978 I knew I was missing something that my mom and dad had so I asked them. That was when they led me to faith in Jesus Christ through repentance of my sins and asking Him to be Lord and Savior of my life. Since then, I on my knees and in the Word, trying to be an obedient Child of God.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
I love writing about interesting topics, going into detail and then turning at the end to present a solid Gospel message...
Favorite Comic Creators:
I love Marvel and DC Comics.

Hey there Matthew.  We do not contract any Christian writers because the CCAS is not a publisher. There are a couple of publishers of Christian material, but I do not know if they hire writers.  There is Lamp Post Publishers and Kingstone Comics. If you go to there websites, you can find out more information about them.
