Profile Information

Location:
Grants Pass, OR
Gender
Male
Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
Comic and graphic art; airbrushing; some sculpture; brush painting; writing
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
Christ changed who I was and kept me from who I was becoming. I've been a believer for about 14 years and its been a steady walk. I am more blessed than I can say.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Creating stories that were evangelical and encouraging to both children and adults. Used to want to be a penciler, but ended up becoming an electrician. Still would love to do art for a living with my trade to fall back on. Currently into drawing and airbrush. Pretty mediocre at both, but really desire to get better.
Favorite Comic Creators:
Been awhile since I have even looked at a comic. Like the art, but not the mainstream industry. Used to be into most Image and Marvel stuff, like Spawn, Gen 13, and X-Men. Currently, my favorite artists are actually airbrush artists. Jaime Rodriguez and Corey St.Clair are probably the top two. MacFarlane and Capullo, Jim Lee, and the Kuberts are among my favorite comic artists.

Hey Matt, sounds like we have gone down similiar paths. I have been away from art for about a full year now. Looking to re-ignite it with a fresh direction into faith, hope, and compassion for life in christ. I have not walked the path of christ as long as you have, but we all have the same desire to be like Jesus. I work in the telecommunications industry as a cable installer, so i feel yah on the wanting to break out and get back into the swing of things in creativity. Also i followed mainstream comics for several years too, but it's has lost it's luster. Content nowadays in mainstream comics has sadden me, but hopeful with patience, faith, and jesus we can all make a difference within this growing medium. I'm a penciler, inker, very amatuer writer, and conceptual design artist with a degree in animation, some fine arts, and computers. Please feel free to check out my page and please dont be afraid to leave any feedback. It's the only way I can grow in creativity. Hopefully get to chat with you some more later.

Hey Matt, Welcome and thanks for the add. I too have only been back at my art about five years now. I did art in high school, but strayed away from it for many years. I'm back in college now doing Graphic Design, but really I'm going to major in Illustration or Animation. I'm still not doing it as a career yet, but I'm working on it. So if you really want to do this don't gave up,Trust God to bring the increase. This site is really good for us as Artist, and our friends here really help each other out. Blessings

Welocme to the CCAS. I wanted to be a penciller, but I ended up a middle school teacher. The Lord is in control and His will be done. Only as I look back in retrospect that I see His divine wisdom in my life. If you have any work, I would encourage you to post it. Looking forward to knowing more about you. May the Lord richly bless you, your family, and the works of our hands.

HI Matt,

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
