Profile Information

Location:
Youngstown, OH
Gender
Male
Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
Though I do not have a degree in any of these areas, I have always had an interest in comics since I was 8yrs. old. (I am now 31) I have always had a passion for drawing comic characters. I am currently writing and drawing my own Christian based comic.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
My testimony is that of my baby girl, Gabrielle Renee. The doctors said that my wife and I would most likely not be able to have children. God had other plans. She is our little miracle. Our little angel. I pray that God will lead me in becoming the father that she deserves and I thank God everyday for the blessings he has bestowed on my family, my friends, myself, and the rest of the world. God Bless
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
To have a Christian based, creator owned comic that can entertain both Christians and non Christians with a powerful storyline. I want to instill in my work the message of that, "If you have faith in God and have Christ in your heart, Anything is possible."
Favorite Comic Creators:
Stan Lee; JRJR; Joe Kelly; The 'Kuberts'; Erik Larsen; Jim Lee; J. Scott Campbell; Michael Turner (rip); Brian M. Bendis; Joe Mad; Scott McDaniel; Joss Whedon; I'm really into Skottie Youngs' artwork right now; the list goes on and on...

Hey JC,

Thanks for the praises on my works :) I guess what SLOWS me down, is family -but I dont mean that in a negative way. Since accepting jesus into my heart my world had gone fast forward a bit. I just celebrated my 2nd marriage anniversary with my beautiful wife and we both have been blessed last december with a baby girl. I also have a 4yr old stepson, work 2 jobs, and just trying our best to deal with the trails of life. Sooo, i dont wana make it sound like I cannot get anything done, just got my hands really full-HAHA! I have prayed for more time to bring forth my spiritual gift and the lord has given way. My wife is going back to work to help with the bills. While she works at night i work the day. My excitement is the fact after i get the kids off to bed i will have maybe an hour or 2 before bed to doing some drawing and brainstorming. So its only a matter of time now. That's another good reason why I want to draw your character too. I need something fresh and new to get the wheels turning again.

As for my comic type? Still in the works, but I have two good stories I can use that i have had over a few years now. I've just been revamping them to be more
in the word and light of the lord. Cowboy is one of them I want to do, but keeping the details under wraps for now. I will share them once I get things together. If you would like to see more pics, i have a link to my blog on my CCAS page. Or just click here if it will work, otherwise just copy and paste:

Some pics on CCAS are from this blog.

Well thats all for now, ttyl.

May you have a blessed day and night.

hey JC,

My name is Bert and I dig the concept designs!

Your last disciple intriges me. As i read your profile, testimony, etc...i was thinking to myself, here's a guy whose shares the same idea as me. Difference is that you have gained a lot more published ground than I ever have, as matter a fact I never published anything. But since accepting Jesus as my lord and savior into my heart I too have continued to search for comics holding the value of christianity. And I too, have become overwhelmingly disappointed as you. So I decided to do that same. Create my own christian comics as well. My hopes are to reach out to young kids, teenagers, and the like what a blessing it can be to have hope, faith, and love in a life given to you by the sacriface of our lord and savior Jesus Christ.

We have the similiar influences and both agree that christian comics need to be reaching out to a larger audience with a bit more down to earth tones w/o the sexuality, gore, and ungodlyness that most main comics roll with these days just to make the sales. But I agree, christian comics should not just be based on characters with halo's, doves, and sunshine either.

I believe a graphic novel would suit me better than a comic book. I am more of a start to finish kinda of guy, that creates stories with a beginning, middle, and end. The on going series thing doesn't work for me. Lot of failed attempts. I just end up losing focus, than interest and eventually my project remained unfinished. Anyway, enough of my flaws. I was wondering if you would mined me drawing a pic of your character the last disciple in my style?

Also if i can post it here on CCAS. I will give you the mad credits of creator and state that I am solely just posting fanart.

Let me know and thanks for inviting me to be your friend here on CCAS.

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

Hi, J.C. It's nice to see another Christian comic book creator! I read your testimony/description and I'm glad to hear that God has given you the idea for a good story that you can illustrate as well. I've also noticed a significant lack in deep Christian superheroes (most attempts at such things have been corny and childish), and have been trying to remedy that with a superhero story of my own. However, I'm kind of the opposite of you--writing is my strong area, and I'm not as good of an artist (though I suppose I'm okay at it). Anyway, I like what I've seen of your drawings. What is The Last Disciple about?

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”
