Prayer

I'm recently divorced, since March 2011, and my ex is already getting married. She has our 3 kids and wants to move to Montana with her new soon to be husband. I don't like it at all. I miss my kids and want to be able to see them.  I'm reluctantly in a new town with a new job and working on my new life but I'm sad. My kids and I miss each other and we want to see each other more than is possible right now. Keep us all in prayer about all the decisions we make and do. I ask for protection for…See More

Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
I write and draw my own comic books, children's books, coloring books, greeting cards, and various other things. I use my MacBook laptop a lot for writing.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I have been given great blessings, mercy and grace in my life time from God. I desire to help people know that God loves them because He does. I do a lot of this by just being friends with a person as best as I can. I'm not perfect for sure but I try to just let a person be themselves with me and I've found in doing that a person learns that I accept them as they are. This opens up communication for me to be who I am as well. I desire to give much respect to everyone I know so that the door to converse is as open as it can be. This has worked for me so far so I'll keep it up.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Drawing and writing comics with my kids and having fun.
Favorite Comic Creators:
I love a lot of these creators work. Kurt Busiek: Marvels, Astro City, Superman, Conan. Mark Waid: Kingdom Come, Irredeemable, Ruse.(Now with Marvel redoing the CrossGen line I get to read his stories I loved with those great characters.) Brian Michael Bendis: Daredevil, Powers, Ultimate Spiderman( I loved his arc on DD). Geoff Johns: (He even has his own comic store!) Green Lantern, Superman. Scott McDaniel(Christian): ( I met this guy at the PittCon, great guy and good to talk to. I love his Daredevil, Nightwing, Batman, Superman, Green Arrow, Trinity. Ed McGuinness(He's a Christian): Superman, Superman/Batman, Thunder Cats, Hulk, Majestic. Jimmy Cheung: his CrossGen stuff and his Marvel stuff. Alan Moore:( I wish he would help out with his movies. He has his reasons though.) Watchman, Tom Strong, Angel Medina: ( I met this guy at a PittCon. He was great. Love his Kiss art, Spiderman, and funny art. Mike Gustavich(I met this guy back in the 90's,Great artist and a good guy.Wish he'd do some new stuff.) Eddie Newell( I met this guy back in the early 90's too, great guy. Underated artist too. Captain Britian, Xmen, etc. Brent Anderson:Avengers, Astro City, Project Moritori, Arthur Adams: The detail! Monkeyman and O'brien, posters, Xmen. Todd McFarlane: His Spiderman was my art drug. George Perez: I don't have enough space for this guy. Great inspiration to me and a great guy. I met him a few times. I got a picture with him in the Pacesetter magazine. We were both younger then. I held a piece of his comic art in my hand back in 1992 at a Philly Con, Stan Lee: The Master, I love his Marvel movie appearances, Mike Mignola: I kinda met him at a Pitt Con in the 90's. I wanted him to draw a sketch of my character but he was only doing HellBoy pics that day. I said nah. Wish I'd at least got that. My friend joked with me by saying, "If he was drawing HeavenBoy would you have gotten that?" We both laughed!, Simone Bianchi( I love his Xmen stuff and the new Thor mini.), Alex Ross( This guy is absolutely amazing. I save a lot of his art as screen savers. I love his Xmen and Wild Cats art, Michael Turner: I met him at a Pitt Con but didn't get a picture with him or get to talk with him much. He was drawing and then I think he went to play Xbox in his booth woith a firend. Nice guy. Miss him. Great art company, David Finch: He's at DC now. Love all his stuff and the mood shading. The detailed backgrounds with the clockwork stuff, amazing., Ivan Reis: Wow his Green Lantern stuff is so involved and action packed. He's like a George Perez student., Neal Adams: Man this guy is great. His Batman for me as a kid was SOOO COOOOL! There are others and as I think of them I'll add them.

Thanks for the welcome Gary! I just still amazed that a networking site like this exists! I'm on the hunt for an artist to draw some characters I've been developing for a while now, which is why I joined. haha you've got some great taste in comicdom by the way.

Thanks for the welcome, Gary.  I look forward to learning from other folks who have some experience with doing webcomics, as previously I've only done my stories in written form.  I'm waiting to get a tablet and then I plan to begin making a buffer before actually putting up a site.  I owe a lot to Matt Guigar and the other guys who wrote "How To Make Webcomics" for showing me the possibilities for sharing my stories through this medium.  Up to now my self-published books never went anywhere and I wondered why God gave me a talent for drawing that seemed destined to be wasted.  I hope my efforts once the comic gets started will in some way justify the talents He gave me.

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
