TUCSON COMIC CON 2011

This year’s Tucson Comic Con was held at the Bookman’s Event Center in south Tucson. Bookman’s is a Arizona-based bookstore chain with operations in Tucson, Phoenix and elsewhere. This was the largest venue so far and the convention lasted two days, November 6-7. As the last couple of years Brent Hofstra helped me set up and man the table. (Thanks Brent). Just got back last night from 3 1/2 days at the 2011 Phoenix Comic Con. Last year

I said Wow--this time it is double WOW. The crowds especially on Saturday were

massive. I helped man the Christian Comic Arts Society booth (with Ralph Miley and Kevin

Yong) there and we had many, many wonderful encounters with Christians

("Wow, I'm sure glad you guys are here!").

(I began writing this shortly after getting home from the Tucson Comic Con November 6, 2010)



Today is the day of the third annual Tucson Comic Con. Got last minute preparations done and packed up the books and table stuff for the Con. Then went over to Brent Hofstra's home and picked him up and we then drove to the Hotel Arizona in Tucson. We parked in the garage across from the hotel and packed our stuff into the exhibit hall. Hi Don--

I'll be at Comic-Con on Sunday and will stop by your booth

I was at the Tucson Comic Con with my kids... must have missed your table! I did wind up talking with Jonnie Allan (of Stykman fame), who turned out to be a believer. I have been considering making a trip to the Phoenix con next month -- is it worth coming to for a day with my kids (8 & 9 yr olds)?

So Great! Thank you and YES! Yes and yes..I want to connect with you guys. Fellowship and championing causes first..sales second. Sales are taking off and it's all God..I had my printing done in SFS at Choice Litho. off Carmenita.

Anyhow, I'll keep coming back..the next few weekends are packed but I'll get a meeting on my calendar. Thanks for bringing me on. Found you through Bud at ChristianComics.net.

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

 

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
