Comics of the next decade?

Let's face it, comic fads typically change decade to decade- and we're just beginning a new one. During the last decade, one of the big movements was manga.  This was fun for those of us who had been manga fans and watched it come to prominence (and don't get me wrong, manga had a place in the 90's market).  But during this past year, there have been manga cutbacks through major players like DC and VIZ, let alone others of the past couple years including Tokyo Pop. As much as I hate it, manga…See More

EC Comics Picture Stories from the Bible

Does anyone have any leads on to who might on the rights to the "Picture Stories from the Bible" series, which was edited by M. C. Gaines and first released by All American Comics and then by EC comics? (M.C. Gaines was the founder of EC comics, which after his death became best known for horror comics and Mad magazine.  He also may have been the designer of the stapled comicbook- and he was the first to sell comic books, since before that, they had only been promotional give aways, let alone…See More

Let's do a 2010 CCAS promo Anthology

hey everybody! I was thinking- how cool would it be to have a brand new CCAS promo book for Comic Con San Diego this year?  Wouldn't that be awesome?  But there's only one way- if we get together and do it! Here are some ideas I have: 1. Anyone who is part of the CCAS can contribute- i wouldn't want this to be about only the best work but about everybody's work!  Not that I wouldn't want everyone to do their best- but art quality is so subjective and i think that everyone should have a chance…See More

Hello Daniel,

I just started reading "Heaven Forbid!" Great stuff! So far, my favorites are the "Transfarmers" and "Thor" strips. I pray all is well and good luck with everything!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for responding to the invitation to write an article on adapting stories for comics. I've tried a couple of times to reply to your message from last month, but each time, it froze up my computer screen. (no idea why.) It just occured to me that i could comment on you wall. I would be happy to have you write the article. You can write it at your convenience. I'll post it whenever you send it. For the length, I would recommend about 1 or 2 pages. If you havemore, material, we can break it up into separate blog posts. Thank you and God bless,

Earnest Graham

You wrote, "thanks for the request?" Not sure what that request was. From you message it sounds like it must have been made a while ago?

Ya'know you can adjust your setting so that the site sends you an email whenever someone leaves you a message or places a comment on your page. That way you'll get pertinent info in a timely manner. Just FYI.

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
