my walk with a pencil pt. 3

If I haven't mentioned yet I work in a juvenile correctional center in the state the of Idaho.  I work with teens that have made some pretty serious mistakes and that have had life throw thema rotten hand.  So for me coming to work is a cornucopia of oppertunities to share bits of my testimony and faith.  And the most accessible way for my to talk with kids is to start drawing.  I bring my sketch pad to work and sit at a chair in the middle of the room and start to let my pencil fly.  Because…See More

My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I have been a Christian for some time. But lately I have felt the challenge to purge my life of the more earthly items. Which meant getting rid of most all my comic book stuff. So as a positive alternative Here I AM. No pun intended. That was a good one though. As I continue my walk I have found the more I give in to God's will the more He sets me free. The ol' christian paradox. And yet I continue to struggle with letting go of the earthly things in my life. I Thank God for blessing me with a wonderful, beautiful wife that keeps me gounded. Hey, on s side note, if you like my stuff, I'll draw up something for you. At some sort of financial arrangement. Plus any positive feedback would be appriciated. God Bless.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Being a sketch artist is what I love to do. I never diciplined myself to practice full story pages though, so maybe that.

Who knew that a blog would be the venue that I would use to unload my thoughts.  I always thought that "blogging" was cliche'.  Something about communicating to the unknown masses had always seemed to carry a certain disconnect that in all honesty I thought was artificial or fake.  Yet once a again I submit myself to God and see where this goes....

So here I am.  36 years of age and living a life that balances between what God wants and what Iwant to give to God.  Most of the time it seems that I prefer the pain on my heels as I drag them in the ground attempting to not submit to God's will.  Other times I would appear to be that I'm going with God's flow and feeling good about it.  And when the dust settles I am good with following God's will.  But the internal struggle will always continue till I'm kicking it with JC himself.  So I…

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

 

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
