Profile Information

Location:
Virginia Beach, VA
Gender
Specifically, I am a heterosexual male.
Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
Graphic Design, Mac Illustration, Typography. I love my Macintosh.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I came to Jesus young, but got serious when I decided to be baptized when I was 16. At that point I became involved in teaching Bible in youth group, and also Sunday school. After high-school, I went to SVA in New York, and did not really like it. I decided to go to a seminary in South Carolina CIU. While I was there, I served as a Youth Pastor in Sumter, SC. Currently I am exploring different avenues of ministry, but not sold on anything yet; I am praying about what God wants for me. I believe I have a prophetic anointing, and that the Church of Jesus Christ is on the verge of an outbreak of the Spirit that will blow away the skeptics and the pharaohs among us. Now is the time to believe God for amazing things, because Jesus is about to beautify His Bride; prepare her (as was Esther) to come before the Bridegroom. So – get ready Church!
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
I wouldn't turn away an art job, be it graphic illustration or as a writer of some kind.
Favorite Comic Creators:
Mike Mignola was a potential idol for me. I like Walt Simonson. I appreciate the style of Batman beyond, and also Justice League.

I really enjoy your style and your themes. keep up the awesome work man. its all for a reason. ps. "stroke" is the right word, even when talking about after the initial action or movement.

Hi Chris!

"What excerpt?" The "two his"? The excerpt at the juno website? Not sure what story you're talking about. Excerpts hither and yon. WF is proofed and published so it's something else? or maybe the excerpt on the website is off??? Thanks. -C

HI Christopher,

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm Scott A. Shuford, one of the new Board members. I wanted to stop in and say thanks for being involved with CCAS! If you have any input or would like to be involved with anything in particular, please let me and Eric Jansen (Membership Coordinator for CCAS) know by contacting us both through the site. We'll be making several announcements in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. To see a bit more about me, check out my profile here on the site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
