Where do you guys stand on having magic in comics?

I was thinking about writing a story, involving (slightly) wizards, and fairies, and charms and potions. And maybe even, as lightly used as it would be, spells. I don't really think there's anything wrong with these types of elements, provided I don't use real spells. Right? I mean, I know a lot of Christians avoid stuff like that... Myself, generally included.Yet I can't really see, so long as I don't do anything too out there, how bad it would actually be to do this. I mean, case and point, I…See More

Help Free Gao Zhisheng

Hey everyone, just found this interesting thing on the internet. There's a apparently a Christian human rights attorney, Gao Zhisheng, who was last seen being taken away by a dozen police officers. Gao Zhisheng has been repeatedly kidnapped, arrested, imprisoned and tortured by Chinese authorities, because he has defended the persecuted and has been an unyielding voice for justice in the Chinese courts. There's a petition over on this website,…See More

comics? I don't get the question...
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
My faith is really easy to understand. Yet, hard to understand all at the same time. I have accepted a God the world has rejected. I've turned from my life of sin, and gave it all to Jesus. I follow the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God who led Israel out of the land of Egypt, and into the land of milk and honey. Then my Lord came here to Earth, and died for my sins and the sins of the world. He is the Alpha and the Omega, he is Jesus Christ the Lord. But above all things, He's my Lord.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)

Mark Millar, Steve McNiven, Ivan Reiss, more to name!

HI Baron - I'm not sure if only admins can create groups or if anyone can, but there should be an "add group" link in the upper right area of the Groups channel.

I don't know where I could possibly be more vocal than this ... But, how do I start a group here on the CCAS?

CCAS at Comic-Con

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011

In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.

Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”

Welcome to the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) Online Network!

Did you know that CCAS has monthly meetings in the Los Angeles area? Contact Eric Jansen for more info!

Also, members of CCAS have produced the APAzine ALPHA-OMEGA for over 25 years!  We have about five openings right now!  Contact Eric Jansen for more info!  (This is a 30-member active-participation-only photocopied magazine for Christian writers and artists who submit a "trib" every other month for fun, fellowship, and critiques by other members.  Between postage and your photocopying costs, you might pay anywhere from $5 to $25 per issue.)

Your current Board of Directors includes Eric Jansen (Secretary,)  and Kevin Yong (Treasurer.)  Both have served as President of the L.A. CCAS chapter.  Kevin is also the Assistant Central Mailer for ALPHA-OMEGA.  Also on the Board are Scott A. Shuford (Vice President) and Geoff Strout (Webmaster.)
