I got you, I try to do a lot of research as well esp if doing something from the Word(Gotta have context). I like the KJV (and I really read it as well :) ). yeah by middle east I  mean that area were a lot of the bible stories happen and you are correct some of that would be in north eastern Africa like Egypt. And yes I was also reffering to how the popes commissioned a lot of the religious art that we have these days. (The romans had a history of rewriting history, like titus takeing Israel off all the ancient maps cause he hated the jews).  my original misunderstanding was if the image related to the story of your Hebrewman comics or if it was just information you came across and wanted to share(Also had never heard the expression in word bubble). But I think its good to question the non biblical things we has Christians have just sorta incorporated into Christianity over time (like the images of European Jesus, or that church has something to do with a building, or how most of the "Christian holidays" were made up and merged with pagan rituals.) anyway that's what drew me to the picture. The bible is the Truth so that's  what we should rely on. what extra biblical sources do you use for research?

Gerald, how much research have you done on the geography of the time period of Jesus?

First ,off want to say this image is not Directed toward anyone's images.

My work flow is such that I research a lot of stuff before I sit down with pen

or pencil I rely on the KJV for some details and really do read it ,as we all should,

it may keep us, and our images from babbling on. Joshua , by middle east you mean northeast Africa right? ,and  pope Alexander vi who ordered the destruction of all Art depicting a Semitic

Jesus and commissioned Michael Angelo to paint the Borgias  right?! I know what your saying ,but

this is not where my Inspiration comes from nor is it the point of my art work, I draw it right out of

the Bible as you will see in my post.

This conversation brings to mind 2Timothy 3:16.

It will be great when we can see Him in the flesh, but we are closer to Him in spirit.

I just don't think it matters what He looks like (it doesn't to me).

So I like the drawing but I'm not sure I understand the point of the picture. Is it talking about the image of Jesus being changed maliciously? I mean we know from scripture that Jesus was Jewish, (Matthew 1). So there is a wide range of skin tone throughout Jewish people, most likely given the region he was  olive(a light brown or deep tan) in color. Now  I cant read the type in the image on the side so I'm not sure what its saying about the transition of the images of Jesus, but it looks like the only thing that's changed slightly throughout all the pictures is the skin tone(Which probably had a lot to do with the roman catholic church since they requisitioned{sp?} a lot of the religious art so they probably wanted Jesus to look more roman than middle eastern jewish, of course I can only speculate on that). Now what I find very interesting is that all these images from 792 to now is that we have pretty Jesus. Though out all the art he is presented as an attractive fellow, which we know from Isaiah 53 was not the case. since this text talks about how Jesus was not a man that others would want to be or look like. So I imagine that on that glorious day when we get to see His face we will all be a little surprised :) but I often wonder if the image we have been given  for so long of Jesus isn't part of some end time deception. ya know like they just put some guy that looks like these pictures shows up and is like Hey I'm Jesus and people buy it because they are conditioned to the image (just a thought). hope I didn't babble on to much  just liked the picture and thought i'ld jump in the conversation. :)

Amen! I had Him looking European in my series just so that most people would recognize him. Who cares though? We worship Him in spirit & not in image!

Thank you Barbara , It amazes me that so many say with there mouth they believe and read the bible . But then create conflicting images That are far from fact.
