A Network of Christian Fellowship for Comics Fans, Pros, and Amateurs
Greetings all!
My name is Michael LaVoice, and the funny thing is that I am writer, who, along with my son, created the characters and concept for a Super Hero comic that taught Christian values and even the odd apologetic or two to kids, but I had given up on ever seeing it illustrated. I had the first two issues scripted, and the first five issue story arc completely plotted, and the next story arc outlined, but could never find someone willing to draw it because there really wasn't any up front money in it for them. I wasn't even looking for an artist when I found this site! I was looking for Christian webcomics, because I enjoy webcomics, but so many of them are...well...kinda trashy and not something I wanna let into my eye gates, you know?
Then, a google search for Chrtistian webcomics later, I found this place! I'm not sure what God has in store at this point, or why He would let me find this place after finally deciding to novelize the comic, but I suppose we'll all find out together.

Welcome aboard, Michael! Have you considered doing your story as a prose novel instead of a comic? I ask in case you might consider an alternative approach.
I'll do it, send me a couple pages we'll see how it comes out, see if i can do it... Just one thing, do you confess Yeshua Jesus Christ is Lord of your life and is Ha-Mashiach(the messiah) of the world and the only way to get to the Father is through Him(Yeshua)?
Michael,
Buzz has an idea there. What good is a story nobody has read?
Releasing it as a serialized novel could be very interesting. Also, if you could find someone to perhaps do one illustration per chapter, that could be even more interesting!
An illustrated novel as opposed to a graphic novel has it's benefits. Specifically, the obligation of the visual artist is much less, and if time and money is an issue with him/her, this much less demanding option might present at least a few nice portfolio pieces. (As an illustrator, finding ways to kill two birds with one well-drawn stone is always a good thing.)
Something to think about.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.
The story is structured in such a way that the individual issues of comic script would be too small for individual books because there would not be enough character development or action to retain reader interest. I am aiming to encapsulate the first five issue story arc into a novel aimed at ages 10 and up, topping out at around 350 to 400 pages. 250 to 300 would be ideal as youth today are not the readers that my generation was.
Chapter beginning illustrations are an excellent idea! I think I'll raise you to including perhaps one additional illustration per chapter, either an introductory sketch of a main character, or a rendition of a critical moment. Good call.
Alika,
Thanks for the offer! are you a digital artist or more traditional ink and paint?
My original intent, to save money and to make the comic more accessible, was to have it rendered digitally, readable on a hosted web server either as a pdf or html document, downloadable as well. The only printed materials I was planning on distributing was to be a "traditional comic book cover," type flyer for each issue, featuring the url where the actual comic is available online.
Perhaps if you were to send me some contact info I could send you some character descriptions and you could work up some pics of characters and we'll see how that goes?
Let me know what you think! I realize it may seem like a weird way to do things, but I have never worked long distance with anyone before and as such I am not sure as to the proper protocols.
Again, thanks for the amazing offer!
Michael
Ah man, this thread got so depressing first no answered question, and in addition essentially being cock blocked by crespo... he's probably right tho. idk LaVoice gonna have to rescind my offer, im not looking to aggrandize someone who isn't promptly willing to promulgate Jesus Christ as Lord. I'm kinda weary on even being part of this site, finding out the mod's not even a christian, but i digress. Pray you find your artist and Yeshua be praised, hey Thanksgivings!
Hmm...
Michael,
Welcome to the group!
:-)
All the mods on this board are professing Christians.
Well the person that believes: suicide, self-mutilation, homosexuality, and w/e -is all okay; that one's no longer a mod. Good to know.
@LaVoice i wasn't implying you're ashamed. i's jus lookin' for answers is all, btw questions still unanswered. and using more than one name for Him is more so to define whom i'm talking about as opposed to being a pompous ass(Gen49:14KJV).
I'm looking forward to the reply: yes i believe the only way to get to the Father(יהוה) is through Jesus Christ (המשיח יֵשׁוּעַ) the savior of the world.
The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011
In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.
Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”
