A Network of Christian Fellowship for Comics Fans, Pros, and Amateurs
Beverly Warren, the wife of film historian Bill Warren (author of KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES) is in the hospital with a serious / as yet undiagnosed medical condition. Please keep her in your prayers over the holiday seasons as they run tests to see what's wrong.
Yours in Christ,
Buzz

Bad news: It is a VERY severe stomach ulcer. Please keep Beverly in your prayers. They are going to try to treat it w / medication. It is a life threatening condition but now that it's known they can do something about it.
Still praying.

Permalink Reply by Buzz Dixon on January 13, 2012 at 7:59pm UPDATE from Bill Warren:
Our Xmas letter said that Beverly's vomiting of blood was evidently due to a bleeding ulcer rather than to cancer.Wrong, but no one is to blame. This is why we were absent from holiday parties. She has cancer of the esophagus, possibly the result of her having acid reflux for several years. Esophogeal cancer can be especially deadly, but her case has been caught early enough to probably be treated by surgery. (The surgeon told us this increases her likelihood of survival to 50%.) She will have surgery starting on Feb. 28th; the operation is very extensive, and will take around seven hours. She will be in the hospital for two weeks or so, recovering, and then have a two- to three-month recuperation at home.
Please keep both Beverly & Bill in your prayers during this time -- Buzz

The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011
In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.
Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”
