DAZ is giving away $800 of software. A general modeler called Hexagon 2.5($150), a character modeler called DAZ Pro($430), and a terrain modeler called Bryce Pro($250). DAZ won the 3D World 2011 award for Software Innovation of the year.
These three programs work together, models you create with DAZ can be 'sent to Hexagon' or 'sent to Bryce Pro', models created with Hexagon can be 'sent to DAZ' or 'sent to Bryce Pro', and models made with Bryce can be 'sent to DAZ'.
DAZ does character modeling, and Hexagon is used to create clothing or adjusting the model or create objects, and Bryce is used to create backgrounds; all of it can be brought together in DAZ and animated as one piece.
It's hard to beat free, it really is. I think this deal is all of February.

I like blender a lot, though I have yet to progress to character animation with it. The learning curve is rather long with it. The best character animation software is probably Animation Master, but at 100 dollars a year, it isn't free.

Permalink Reply by Martin Murtonen on February 6, 2012 at 7:20pm I've played with Blender for creating mock-ups for scenes, and helping with layout. For box modeling, it's fantastic, and I have done some character models - but I haven't yet actually animated anything with it.
Once you get the handle on the extrusions and stuff in Blender, it's pretty easy to move around - and the hot key system is fantastic...I've been playing with it for over 2 years, and I still don't know what everything is...there's a lot in it.
The DAZ 3D Offer though, just might be too nice an offer to beat - there is the limitation that stuff made with the DAZ package "looks like it was made with" DAZ stuff - though it might be just what is needed.
I'll be definitely kicking the tires on the DAZ stuff. Have you played with DAZ vs. Poser? I've tried (and accidentally bought) Poser, but I can't stand it.
Permalink Reply by Brian Jeffrey Durham on February 7, 2012 at 7:38am Well, this is my first rendered video from DAZ Pro with some love from Sony Imagination 3 Suite. Did the whole thing in less than a half an hour I guess, add render time and some video editing time and it's all done before I have to go to class at 8 am. So... you can see why I think this short timed free offer is something not to miss.
The 'Spirituality in Comics' Panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2011
In comics, movies, and even Broadway musicals like “The Book Of Mormon”, spiritual themed work seems to be unexpectedly coming from the least religious of sources.
Panelists including SERGIO CARIELLO (The Action Bible), RUSSELL DALTON (Marvelous Myths: Marvel Superheroes and Everyday Faith), BUZZ DIXON (Serenity/Hits & Misses), and MIKE SHIELDS (Blue Blazes) discuss how a new generation of comics and pop culture are exploring timeless truths and also address the question “Is Mass Media Our New Church?”
