I have a proposal for some collaborations with a writer and artist to help me with some future Johnny B. Goode stories.
NO PAY I DO WEB COMICS FOR FREE, I DON'T SELL THEM BUT ANYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED OR HELPED IN THE MAKING OF THE COMICS WILL RECEIVE FULL RECOGNITION FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF WORK THEY PUT INTO THEM. IF YOU HAVE IDEAS ON HOW TO PROMOTE OR SELL THEM I'D LOVE TO HEAR THEM BUT MY GOAL IS TO PRODUCE ALL-AGES CHRIST HONORING WEB COMICS THAT ARE ENJOYABLE AND ALSO TEACH AND INSTRUCT IF POSSIBLE. ANY CHARACTERS OR CONCEPTS YOU CREATE WITHIN MY COMIC UNIVERSE CAN BE SPUN OFF INTO OTHER COMICS AND PROJECTS NOT INVOLVING ME, YOU CAN EVEN USE MY CHARACTERS IF YOU WANT BUT I WOULD ASK THAT YOU KEEP THEM IN THE 50S UNIVERSE UNLESS A LOGICAL EXPLANATION FOR DISPLACING THEM IS POSSIBLE.
I couldn't post this in the Collaborations forum for some reason, I have more details but would like to post them there. I have to sleep now but will be up later today to see if that's possible.
It sounds amazing, but I'm too new at this to really be of any help, sorry. :(
I hope you find someone, though! :)
Christopher, the 'Collaborations' section has been broken for some time, so you may have to post the details here in Storytelling/Writing. Wish I could help, but I've no experience or familiarity with the 1950's hero scene and I doubt I could capture the feel you are after. I'll pray for your project today that God raise up partners for your wonderful project!

Allright here is my overly wordy idea and proposal.
I'd like to create a shared universe of characters. My characters exist in a sort of real time taking place 60 years ago so if it's Oct 2012 it's Oct 1952 as you create the stories that needs to be kept in mind because of historical points in the past and deadlines for the work.
I need some help on my story. I recently finished a 6 page webcomic JOHNNY B. GOODE, some here have read it and discussed ideas with me. I have been working on my characters for mny years and this is the first story I've ever finished. I have a Christian Superhero team based in the 50s called the Shock Squad.
I have partially finished 2 comics with these characters, one in BW the other full color with lettering of 4 or 5 pages and about 50 panels fully colored of points in the story.
I worked on it for a long time over 3 years, I had someone write the story and then he moved on. I wanted to change aspects of the story but I'm not a good writer, I a very poor writer, this isn't modesty it's honesty.
I finally gave up on the idea and every so often stared at the half finished stories and panels and felt defeated. About a year ago my sons ages 10 and 11 began writing and drawing their own comics based on their love for Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes.
They are very talented and little by little they asked me questions about the craft of making comics, we poured over How To books By SCOTT MCCLOUD and WILL EISNER and How to draw THE MARVEL WAY, we began to search out good stories and comics to draw inspiration from.
Finally my son Luke kept asking me "when are you going to finish your comic Daddy?" My sons had finished about 40 strips at this point that I was helping them ink letter and color and post on our Facebook page.
So I decided to try again, I still wanted to do Shock Squad but realized the project was too big, a team book involving time travel and all kinds of Christian themes done in metaphor was something I couldn't handle. I tried to enlist writers for help, this was before I found this site and none were interested.
So I decided to do a new character, someone who embodied all the things I liked to do without all the baggage of the Shock Squad. I came up with Johnny B. Goode loosely based on the 1940s character Sky Wizard.
In the end I only used the costume but it gave me a springboard for the character and I was off and running.
I only wanted to do one 6 page story about Johnny just say I did it! I finally finished one! Well I had so much fun on that story, I originally did it on the Facebook page 4 panels a day Monday through Friday until it was done. Nobody followed it but 2 guys I work with my Parents and Mother in Law. I was discouraged that I couldn't promote it so I put it on a Blog.
And I had my old friend Phil put it on Cyberlight.
To be honest though the most input and feedback I've had is what I've recieved here on C.C.A.S.
I eventually want to build on Johnny's world and later introduce the Shock Squad. I learned a lot from doing that story and figure maybe slowly I could learn how to do the team book if I had some help and guidance.
SO HERE IS MY PROPOSAL I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP ME WRITE A SECOND STORY AND IF POSSIBLE OTHER COLLABORATERS AS WELL. I HAVE THE BASIC PLOT IN MIND BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PACE,CREATE SUSPENSE,AND MYSTERY. I DO KNOW MY CHARACTERS THEIR SURROUNDINGS HISTORY AND i KNOW A LOT ABOUT 50S CULTURE I WOULD WANT TO TWEAK DIALOGUE AND CAPTIONS TO MAKE IT SOUND MORE 50S WHEN NEEDED. THE SENSIBLITIES OF THE CHARACTERS ARE DIFFERENT BUT I WANT THE CHARACTERS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY "NO CAMP". BASICALLY REAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE REAL PROBLEMS LIVING IN THE 50S IN A WORLD OF SUPERHEROES.
IF ANY ARTISTS WOULD LIKE TO HELP ME DO LAYOUTS OR LOOSE PANELS BREAKDOWNS, IF YOU WANT TO DO MORE FINE.
THE STORY IS 18 T0 22 PAGES REGULAR COMIC LENGTH BROKEN INTO 3 CHAPTERS AND EACH CHAPTER HAS TO BE A SOMEWHAT SELF CONTAINED ARC. THE CHAPTERS COULD BE 6 OR 7 PAGES AND A MINI CLIFFHANGER AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER WITH SMALLER CLIFFHANGERS EVERY 3 TO 5 PANELS. THE REASON WHY IS BECAUSE I WILL PUBLISH THE COMIC AS A STRIP THAT CAN ALSO BE PRINTED AS A PAPER COMIC. THE STRIPS COULD APPEAR IN 3 TO 5 PANEL SEGMENTS LONGWAYS OR AS INDIVIDUAL PANELS AND LATER COLLECTED. THE WRITER MAY NOT HAVE TO WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS BUT A LAYOUT ARTIST WOULD.
I basically want someone to be the training wheels if you will, and later hold the bike until I can ride on my own. My writing is bad in my opinion, If I did work with anyone I'll tell them all the details and they can contribute as much or as little as they want. If I did meet a true collaborator who wanted to invest more in this world of characters they could have freedom to more. I don't care about copyrights or getting my name big I want to tell good Christian Superhero comics.
The old Marvels and DCs had great art and some great stories but the absence of GOD is sad to me when I read those stories. I want to evoke the fun of those old comics and have great Christian characters for people to read.
If you don't find anyone, I still suggest D.L. shared universe idea, because there is a golden age hero that is introduced. So your team Shock Squad or anyone else could be introduced in this series and so forth. It may not be the total of what you want with an individual writer, but it could be something to do right now while you are waiting.
This shared universerse is present day, but it will focus on the past of anytime period.
Please join us with the shared universe project Christopher! Right now everyone is contributing trying to create the framework for the individual stories. We are considering a basic story where a young actor in the present day is hired to play the role of a famous Golden Age hero from a past generation. Through flashbacks and as the story progresses, he will learn Biblical truths and hear great stories of adventure from the time of the hero he is trying to understand, and from those who knew him, and those who come after. I think your talents, skills, and knowledge would be a great contribution to this project! And we are thinking that this will be an 'alternative universe', so as not to interfere or disrupt the various series that the characters come from. Could be very fun to tweak your favorite creations for the project!
hang in there Mr. Jones. Come 2013, I'll be doing my own creator stuff...so I'll be in need of some training as well...
